5 – Sharon calls Steve at 2:35 in the morning to tell him he’s needed on the Helicarrier. She’ll brief him on the way and will meet him on the roof.
6 – The Skull is dead, and given that he was in a clone of Steve’s body, they need Steve’s blood to confirm it’s the Skull. Sharon had almost forgotten that, but Steve hadn’t.
7 – Sharon’s with Fury and Steve as they look at the Skull’s body.
8 – Steve asks why the Red Skull was in New York, but Sharon says they don’t know why yet and tells him where the Skull was found.
9 – At the crime scene, Fury briefs Steve while Sharon stands nearby. She notices Steve’s odd reaction and asks about it, and they talk about the Skull’s disguise. Steve recognizes it as a man he saw on the street the day before and realizes the Skull was watching him.
11 – She and Steve talk almost privately, and he says he was created because of the Skull, in a way.
12 – Sharon and Steve go through a sewer – Sharon wonders if it’s really best that it’s just the two of them. Steve argues his case, finishing by saying he can do this on his own, if she’d rather wait here. She tells him not to get snitty, she just would have brought a little back-up. But she’s certainly not going to let him do this on his own. Steve thinks she’s babysitting him, and she disagrees. Steve presses her on Fury’s hidden agenda; he noticed Fury and Sharon sharing meaningful glances tonight.
13 – She doesn’t want to talk about it and wants to concentrate on the task at hand. He presses some more, and she admits that Fury wants her to find out if Steve killed the Skull. He’s shocked, she agrees. Steve argues that there’s very little chance that’s the real Red Skull being autopsied anyway. She asks why they’re walking through the underground tunnels in the middle of the night then. He says, “Just in case,” and she says, “And to think I’d forgotten how frustrating you could be.”
16 – They hear something ahead, and Steve tackles the guy.
17 – They’re interrupted by another guard, who shoots at Steve. Steve takes him out, and Sharon says, “So much for getting in unseen, I guess.” He tells her to stay behind him, and he takes out multiple guys while she follows.
18 – Sharon calls in to SHIELD for a tactical assault team.
19 – Sharon and Steve keep fighting, neither of them noticing Crossbones.
20 – There’s a fire in the tunnels.
21 – They find the bomb someone was trying to set off and Sharon says the bomb is active – how do they deactivate it? Steve smashes the power source – AIM and their offshoots love their massive amounts of power. He wonders what the point of the bomb was.
22 – Sharon asks if the bomb isn’t enough, but Steve thinks that, for the Skull, it’s usually not. Sharon calls into Fury to call for a science team, but Fury tells him they’ve got a bigger problem – there’s evidence the Skull had a cosmic cube. Whoever killed the Skull now has it.

Cover – Sharon and Steve fight a crowd of bad guys.
2 – Sharon coordinates the mission on a SHIELD Sub-Carrier. She tells Agent Heinberg telling her that it’s a target-rich environment if things go badly, saying she needs to get some technical insight, and tells Steve to walk with her.
3 – She tells Steve she needs him to be focused when they hit Paris. When he says he’s tired and has a lot on his mind, she tells him she’s got this and to take a break. She’ll call him the second Fury gets in touch – Scout’s honor.
5 – Sharon sends someone to fetch Steve to the command deck.
7 – Union Jack tells Sharon and the Skull that they found the Skull’s men and Mother Night, all dead, and a missing WMD. Sharon tells him to cordon off the area for the SHIELD techs and signs off. She notes to Steve that this night just gets better and better...
8 – Sharon and Steve are in the flying car when she gets a call that the target is making a run for it. Steve says it’s an AIM hovercraft.
9 – Against Sharon’s protests, Steve jumps out of the car.
13 – He makes a bit of a scene beating up AIM, and Sharon, who’s landed the car, says, “Wow. Fury’s gonna love this.
14 – Sharon and Steve brief Fury. Fury ends the briefing by saying they’re in a holding pattern, and Sharon should handle cleanup and then take the night off – it’ll probably be here last chance for some R and R anytime soon. Just do him a favor, Rogers, and try to stay off the friggin’ news for a change. Sharon smiles at Steve.
15 – Sharon thanks Steve for keeping her company and tells him that Fury never gives her any time off anywhere good. Her last free night was in Afghanistan. Steve says she’s been on the clock even longer than he has – he just washes he was better company. She does, too, but a girl can only ask for so much. She quickly says she’s kidding and asks if the city brings back a lot of memories.
19 – After his recap, Sharon says she forgets how worldly he is sometimes. He knows she does and asks if she’s feeling better. She admits that the mission wasn’t exactly a success, but they did stop AIM. But this is only the beginning, isn’t it. Whatever’s going on, this is all just the beginning...
Letter – Robert Kirkman writes in saying that Sharon Carter is part of the “solid Captain America goodness.” Joe Casey praises Epting’s work on the emotions on the faces of Cap, Sharon, and General Lukin. Frank Davis says the best part of the first issue is the Sharon/Cap conversation – “Sharon asks the questions to the icon that no one else can. The familiarity and comfort former lovers bring to one another brings home the issue that Cap has lost a lot recently and he might lose himself in his job to overcompensate for his losses. Will Steve forget who he is or will Sharon have to remind him?” Brubaker responds, “Sharon Carter was a personal favorite of mine, and I’m really glad to get to use her in this capacity. Thank you, Mark Waid, for saving her from the abyss.”

2 – Steve gets a call, assuming it’s Sharon, but Fury says that he’s sorry to disappoint, he knows he looks good, but he’s no Agent 13. Steve asks if something happened to Sharon.
3 – Fury says Sharon’s fine, it’s just that her security clearance doesn’t cover this one.
4 – Sharon and Fury have a private meeting on the SHIELD Helicarrier. She asks if Steve should be there; Fury says even if he weren’t busy, he wants to keep Steve away from it right now anyway. She tells him to explain, and he fills her in – they found the gun used to kill the Skull.
5 – Prints on the gun belong to Jack Monroe (the same one she fought ages before). Sharon thinks it’s a little convenient, and Fury agrees. He wants Sharon to track Monroe down.
6 – He tells her not to move on Monroe, just keep him under watch. She says she’ll call in when she’s got something.
20 – Sharon’s within a block of Monroe’s signal and signs out of comms with SHIELD. She figures out where he likely is and realizes the lock is broken. This is too easy...
21 – She opens a door, and a body falls out. A voice says, “Wrong door,” and just as Sharon turns toward it, someone (Bucky) punches her and knocks her out.

1 – In Philadelphia, the Winter Soldier (Bucky!) talks on the phone; Sharon gets a good look at him while she’s tied up and gagged in the trunk, right as he talks about how he’s going to take care of the SHIELD woman exactly as ordered and closes the trunk.
2 – On the Helicarrier, Fury and Agent Neal Tapper talk about how long it’s been since Sharon reported in. Neal tries to tell him why he’s concerned, but Fury thought their relationship was over.
3 – Neal says it was a mistake; he was just upset that Sharon took the liaison job with Rogers. When he tried to put his foot down, Fury says she put her foot where the sun doesn’t shine. He’s trying not to worry yet because Sharon’s tough as nails – but he’s still got people trying to track down her communicator. Neal asks if Captain America is looking for her, and Fury says he doesn’t know Sharon’s missing. Fury wants to find her before he has to be told.
13 – Steve has a psychic vision of Sharon chained to a pole.
14 – Steve calls Fury and tells him that Sharon’s been captured. They talk about the situation – the bad guys showed Steve where Sharon is, and he’s already there.
15 – Steve starts taking out the guards.
16 – He takes off Sharon’s gag, and she tells him it’s a set-up. He says they’ll deal with it, and she says he doesn’t understand – she’s seen the guy they’re hunting!
17 – She thinks it’s Bucky! … who is currently watching them through a rifle scope.
18 – Meanwhile, Neal Tapper’s tracked Sharon’s communicator to a body and a bomb. Then he dies… because of the bomb.
19-20 – Sharon and Steve watch the explosion. Sharon hugs his arm and cries as she realizes this is why they wanted him there.
Letters – Adam Schlagman talks about how great the action is and mentions Sharon being knocked out. Roman Horoszewski talks about finding out that Steve wanted to give up being Cap for Agent 13.

Cover – Sharon, Fury, and Steve fight alongside other SHIELD agents.
3 – In a helicopter over Mongolia, and Sharon and Steve are cold to each other. He claims it’s nothing, she tells him it’s never nothing with him – speak. He doesn’t want them going into a firefight and get into it over their own baggage. She tells him he should have thought of that earlier.
4 – Yesterday, in Brooklyn, Sharon confronts Steve outside his place by cursing him out and accusing him of having Fury take her off the team for the Kronas Op. He’s surprised Fury told her, and she tells him that Steve just told her… just now.
5 – Sharon knows better than to think Fury would sell out Steve, who suggests taking this inside. Sharon demands to know what he’s thinking – she’s one of the best field agents they’ve got. Steve says she’s too close to this one, and Sharon accuses him of the same. He says he’s not close in the same way she is – he wants justice, but he thinks Sharon wants revenge. She tells him that he’s full of it; she can tell when he keeps his anger bottled up. She tells him to admit that he doesn’t want her along because he’s scared she’ll kill Bucky.
6 – He still refuses to believe it’s Bucky and says Sharon didn’t know him, but she’s watched the newsreels of Steve and Bucky from the war. She knows his voice. Steve says that can all be faked. She tells him that she’s going to bring Neal’s killer in – Steve can live in denial all he wants, but she’s going on that mission tomorrow.
7 – On the helicopter, they’re picking up radar signature, and Fury tells them to turn on radar invisibility. It might cause an international incident. Go with it.
9 – Fury and Steve talk about Lukin in New York and the mission to retrieve him. Steve says they need to talk about Agent 13’s involvement, though.
10 – Fury asks if Sharon and Steve have stopped butting heads over the mission; they confirm they have.
11 – They hit the ground at Lukin’s facility and are immediately attacked, but they’re ready for it.
12 – Sharon is thrown to the ground by an explosion; a guard nearly gets the drop on her. Steve hits him with his shield. Instead of being grateful, Sharon says she had that guy. Steve doesn’t doubt it. She tells him she’s still made at him – this doesn’t change anything. Steve helps her up and says he doesn’t doubt that, either.
13 – Sharon tells Steve to leave a guard alone, as he’s out of it and can’t tell Steve where Lukin’s assassin is. They head to the elevator, and Sharon tells Steve they’ll find Lukin’s assassin after they get Lukin.
14 – Sharon and the others ride the elevator.

2 – Steve tells Fury and Sharon about the Winter Soldier file, but he doesn’t know how it got there. Sharon thinks it’s the cube, and Steve agrees, but neither of them know why. Fury says to mess with Steve’s head.
3 – Fury starts to leave to take the file to the techs, but Sharon hang back with a cup of coffee. She asks Steve if he believes it’s the real thing.
4 – Sharon says the file, if it’s legit, means that the Winter Soldier isn’t really Bucky, just what was left of Bucky. Steve asks if that’s supposed to make him feel better, and she says yeah. Steve argues that she needs to read the file more closely, because he kept fighting them = part of Bucky is still in there. Fury says they don’t know that.
7 – Sharon waits alone on Steve’s roof, hoping that Steve will talk with her, or at least listen. He says he knows what she’s going to say – that because Bucky is brainwashed, that makes it okay to kill him.
8 – She argues that it’s not Bucky in any way that matters. She doesn’t give a damn about the Skull, but all those people the Winter Soldier killed deserve justice. He tells her to blame Lukin, but she says that Bucky is responsible. She says Steve has to stop thinking of Bucky as his partner and friend – he already died. Steve says he was there.
9 – They argue some more, and he he leaves after saying he doesn’t know anything more and isn’t sure if he ever did. She calls Fury and tells him she blew it – she thinks she used to know how to talk to him. She tells Fury to make the call – maybe he’ll have better luck than she did.
20 – Steve considers that Sharon might be right – after all, it’s what Bucky would want, too – but no, there has to be another way.

18 – She asks what he found out; Steve sends her everything and says he and Steve are en route. When she says he should have called her sooner, he points out that Fury would have just gotten tied up in red tape again. He sends her a reliable tip for a WMD and signs off, and she curses, takes a beat, and then orders a Strike team.
19 – When they touch down in West Virginia, Sam muses that Sharon sounds like a real hardass – what happened to the old happy-go-lucky Sharon? Steve tells him that her last boyfriend was killed in the Philadelphia bombing, and she was never that happy-go-lucky, though she did used to smile more often.

9 – In Pilsburg, Kansas, Steve’s in civilian clothes, and Sharon takes over questioning people at the Sheriff’s office about Bucky. She asks for a list of the witnesses who may have seen Bucky, along with their addresses. Cover – Sin and Crossbones pose with guns on the cover; Steve and Sharon are in the background.
1 – The AIM guy clarifies he needs both their help, and Sharon says she told Steve the town was weird. The AIM guys want their help because Sharon’s with SHIELD and he’s Captain America. Sin and Crossbones have taken over AIM’s lab.
3 – The AIM guy tells them stuff that aligns with what they know about Bucky’s adventures there. Sharon asks how that led to Crossbones taking over their lab.
4 – Sharon listens as the AIM guy and Steve talk about Crossbones and Sin taking over the lab.
5 – Sharon confirms where the entrance to the lab is and calls in the SHIELD Strike team with stealth protocol.
7 – As the AIM guy keys in the code to let them in, Sharon asks him to go over this once more. They semi-agree that once he gets the door open, two of Sharon’s men will take him to a holding cell. He’s just started to disagree when the door opens a little and he’s shot in the head. SHIELD’s stealth protocols are not super stealthy; they’re taking hostile fire.
8 – Sharon realizes that the AIM guy was unknowingly leading them into a trap. Both she and trap think they should have seen it. Steve rushes forward into the fight and tells her to keep safe, and she tells him, “You, too.”
11 – Sharon and the others chase after Crossbones and Sin.
12 – Sharon gives orders to the SHIELD Strike team as she and Steve take on the RAID agents.
14 – Post-fight, Sharon notes that after all these years, he’s never told her how he dodges bullets. He says he just sees faster. She teases him about being infuriating and calls for an update from all teams. Morgan’s team in the vault doesn’t answer… because they’re dead.
15 – She gets an official update outside. One of the agents is missing, and she arranges to try and find him. She’s suspicious about why they didn’t take anything from the vault but did take one of her men. Nothing about this place adds up.
16 – Steve’s figured out why Bucky was there, and they go to visit Betty Tolin, daughter of Gretchen Zeller. Sharon realizes they’re not the only people who have recently asked Better about her mother.
18 – Bucky had been in love with Gretchen at one point, and Sharon asks if Bucky mentioned anything about his plans or where he was going. Betty says Bucky wanted to know where Gretchen was buried so he could pay his respects before it was too late.
19 – Steve thinks it’s a little convenient that Bucky tracks down Gretchen and finds an AIM cell; she agrees and asks how he would even manage to track Gretchen down. They realize that Fury is helping Bucky.
20 – Sharon isn’t convinced, but she agrees it sounds like Nick. She asks Steve his thoughts on what Bucky meant by “before it’s too late,” and Steve thinks he’s going to try and kill Lukin, and he doesn’t plan on surviving the attack.

11 – Sharon interrupts a meeting where Steve and Union Jack (Joey Chapman) are getting reamed out for a misstep to say that Steve works for her, and for the next week, so do Union Jack and Spitfire (Jackie). The orders came directly from Downing Street.
12 – Gavin warns her that this won’t be the last she hears of this, and she brushes it off, gives him some orders, and says they’ll be looking into the investigation from a different angle. As she walks down the hall with the guys, Steve tells her she’s late. She counters that she was early until he caused trouble that she had to clean up. Luckily, she still has leverage with the Prime Minister. Joey asks Steve who the scary woman is, and he introduces them before they get to work.
13 – Sharon and Joey trespass on private property. They’re doing this because Steve and Jackie knew Bucky and are going after him, whereas Sharon and Joey didn’t know him. He asks if it bothers her that Jackie and Steve are working together so closely, and she denies that Steve is her man before asking if she should be bothered. He compliments her on hiding it well, and she reminds him that she can fire him.
17 – Bucky is interrupted by Sharon and Joey. The two have stopped bantering and are talking about the tunnel network before Sharon says, “Hold on.”
18 – Sharon gets a call on her comm, and she and Joey head back to handle a Master Race sighting. She updates Steve as Bucky listens in out of sight.
19 – Before she can get a thermal scan, Steve jumps out of the flying car, leaving Sharon cursing behind him.
20 – Steve finds everyone dead and tells Sharon to get down there now.
21 – Sharon arrives and explains where they got the tip. Jackie tells her Sharon needs to see something – it looks like part of a plan for an air assault on London.

3 – Sharon and Steve run along the rooftops as they talk about the mission and Sharon teases him about liking his UK slang. He helps her across a skylight as she defends Gavin’s choices, as frustrating at they are.
4 – She reminds him that they have no proof, but he feels it in his bones. He wants to take Lukin down now, he’s done too much. She reminds him that she was the bait in Philadelphia, so she remembers what he did. He doesn’t think he can ever forget. She assures him that they’ll get him this time. Steve tells her that he’s sure of his own strength, and he’s sure of her, but he has less faith in the people making decisions these days.
6 – When they’re alone, Jackie asks Steve if he and Sharon are serious. He says she seems more serious than he was expecting. Jackie assures him that Sharon won’t break it off this time.
7 – Sharon and Steve talk about the plan in her flying car, and she asks if he has any friends who can fly at the same speed Jackie can run to check all the planes Lukin has in the air as distractions.
8 – Steve thinks they should go after the blimp.
10 – Sharon drops him off on the blimp.
11 – Sharon calls in to Jackie and Joey, telling them she’s checking out the rest of the air traffic, just in case, and keeping an eye out for Bucky. She asks if they can make it to the blimp without her help.
19 – Sharon shouts Steve’s name as she sees him fall from the blimp.

1 – As London burns (again), Steve tells Sharon that he’s got to take down the destructive robot now. She tells him to wait and tries to ask how, but he’s already running.
3 – She shouts his name as he runs at the robot and gets batted into an office building. He tells her to get out of the sky on the double (she’s in the flying car) – he doesn’t want her in the path of those beams.
4 – She says she doesn’t want to be up there right now, either, but there’s something she has to do. He tells her it’s too risky, but she still calls, “Hey, Moron Man – Catch!” And drives the flying call into Master Man, which also breaks her flying car. Steve calls her name over the comms.
5 – She crashes into a building and tells Steve woozily that she’s alive, just shaken, and she’ll see him outside. She tells him to be careful, and as she leaves, she’s stopped by Crossbones and Sin, who’s relieved to finally have someone around worth killing.
11 – After they apparently torture her a bit, and after Sharon’s broken Sin’s nose, she keeps passing out and they decide to kill her. As Crossbones holds the gun to her head, a voice (Lukin, controlled by the Skull) tells them that Agent 13’s death isn’t part of the plan… not today.
19 – Sharon is patched up and watching the news with Steve and Jackie. Sharon says Lukin’s building collapsed – she knows, she was in it, and if Spitfire hadn’t gotten her out… Jackie assures her that it was nothing and calls her dear. She banters with Joey on her way out, and Jackie and Joey see them off.
20 – In the cab, Steve apologizes for not being there for her. She reminds him that she survived and asks what it was like working with Bucky again. She assures him that he’ll come back, he’s just in a tight spot.

Cover – Sharon holding a gun in the foreground as SHIELD agents try to take down Steve behind her in the Civil War crossover issue.
1 – Sharon’s in the SHIELD Administrative Affairs Building in New York for a psych eval because of what happened. The therapist presses, and she says it’s been building since Maria called her on the carpet that day.
2 – Weeks before, Sharon and Maria are looking at footage of Cap beating the crap out of SHIELD agents, and Sharon says it looks like Maria didn’t listen to her.
3 – Maria and Sharon argue about how Maria dismissed Sharon’s advice about Cap, giving she’s Steve’s personal liaison.
4 – Sharon continues to challenge Maria, reminding her that Steve doesn’t take kindly to being shot at.
5 – Maria did what she did because she wanted to stop Steve before he became a rallying symbol for the other side, and Sharon says Fury would be proud. Maria says he would be, actually, because Maria’s no longer going to turn a blind eye to Steve and Sharon’s relationship – she’s going to have Sharon use that relationship to get Cap back, or Maria’s going to bust her down past Agent 666.
6 – The therapist reminds her that operative and liaison involvement is currently against SHIELD regulations, and she tells him to tell that to the 15 women who liaised with Tony Stark. They talk about what Sharon could and couldn’t see coming and how she knew that her relationship with Steve would impact things.
7 – She also knew her relationship would be used against her. She supported registration, and she’s more upset that she objected to bringing him in with a honey trap.
8 – Like a good soldier, following orders comes before friendships. She remembers a conversation with Dugan after he tried to bring in Steve and got his ass handed to him.
9 – The two of them banter before they get serious, and Dugan says this isn’t what he signed on for. It would never have happened if Nick was here, and it can’t go on much longer.
10 – Inspired by Dugan, Sharon agrees to try to stop it. She arranges to meet up with Steve.
11 – Sharon takes him to a safe room nearby. For a serious talk.
12 – After they have sex, they get around to that serious talk.
13 – They argue about the pros and cons of the Registration Act.
14 – They argue some more.
15 – And some more. Quotes from the US Founding Fathers are thrown around.
16 – SHIELD closes in. Steve knows it must be getting hard for her at SHIELD, but she reminds him that she’s a survivor, too, remember?
17 – They talk about when they’ll see each other again, and Steve assures her he’ll win this one. The SHIELD agents alive in their cape killer outfits.
18 - Sharon confesses that she’s worried for Steve. She doesn’t want the man she loves dying. Meanwhile, the Cape Killers bust open the wall and realize Sharon’s given them the wrong location.
19 – In therapy, she admits she doesn’t know why she lied to SHIELD. She doesn’t know why she does have the things she’s done lately. She’s not the kind of person to choose love over duty.
20 – Before Sharon can be cleared for duty, the therapist wants to meet with her again in two days. “We’re not done with you yet.”
21 – Later, the therapist – Faustus in disguise – tells the Red Skull that she’s working out perfectly.
22 – He claims Sharon has no idea that the reason she’s in love with Rogers is because Faustus wished it. And when the time comes, Agent 13 will be right where they want her.
Note: I don’t think Faustus actually made Sharon love Steve; the only place where he, as a therapist, could have convinced her to fall in love with him was in therapy, and she wasn’t put in therapy until she defied orders because she loved Steve. Maybe he planted seeds during the annual psych evals, or maybe he’s just trying to look better to the Red Skull.

1 – Sharon is being reassigned after her insubordination the month before, but her clearance isn’t being revoked. Sharon says she isn’t conflicted anymore, and Hill tells her that she’s being assigned to the task force to hunt down Nick Fury.
2 – In her quarters, she finds Fury’s LMD, who scans her retina for security.
3 – The LMD puts her through to Fury, who tells her they’ve got a small problem. She says Hill knows Sharon’s been in contact with Fury, but Fury says Hill only suspects. She argues a little more, and he tells her that their problem actually concerns Cap.
16 – Sharon temporarily takes out some Cape Killers after Steve from above and calls to get his attention.
17 – She tells him to join her in the hovercar quick, and he jumps up to join her.
18 – He asks why she’s flying to his rescue, and she brings up Nick Fury.
19 – Fury sent Sharon because he couldn’t get a word to Steve that he was about to walk into trouble fast enough otherwise. Steve asks why Fury would send her – he thought she was still conflicted. She says she hasn’t been conflicted since they blew a hole in Goliath’s chest. Steve asks if she thinks Tony and Reed would work with HYDRA.
20 – Sharon doesn’t think so, but she didn’t think any of this would have happened. She asks when this will get better – after Tony and Steve beat each other to death? He hopes not. Sharon realizes he found something before about the Skull, but Steve says there isn’t any good news.
Letters – Adrian J Watts is more interested in seeing how Agent 13 – and perhaps Bucky – will respond to the Registration Act. In another letter, he thinks the real issue is that people like Sharon support the Act simply because it’s the law. Andrew J Shaw says he doesn’t think he ever really liked Sharon Carter before this issue (22) – maybe now she’s more vulneratlve, though; she’s still no Bernie or Rachel, though. Ed Brubaker responds, “I don’t know, Andrew, for me, Sharon is better than Bernie or Rachel combined even, and she’s always been one of my favorite characters.”

6 – Sharon is in the crowd waiting for the arrested Steve to arrive. She tells Nick over comms that she’s not going to watch Steve put behind bars.
7 – Flashback to Sharon’s childhood. According to Brubaker in the Director’s Cut, she’s seven here, and Peggy, now an aunt (probably great-aunt) is about 50.
8 – More flashback as Sharon describes how she fell for Steve.
9 – Fury tells Bucky, who’s spotted Agent 13, to follow Sharon’s lead. Fury wants Bucky to be Sharon’s ground support.
15 – Steve is shot, and the crowd goes wild. Sharon fights her way through the crowd to get to Steve. A gun shoots at Steve from close range.
16 – Sharon leans over Steve, holding his face. She begs people to help them and cries as he tells her to get the crowd to safety.
17 – She yells for someone to help her.
20 – Sharon uses her SHIELD security clearance to accompany Steve. She and Fury talk over comms, and he reassures her that Steve isn’t going to die.
27 – Sharon begs Steve to hold on. He tells her he takes her breath, his voice fading before he can finish. They realize they’re losing him, and she begs him to stay with her.
28 – After Steve had been declared dead, Sharon is crying against Sam’s chest in the hospital.
29 – Sam goes over his past with Steve as he looks over Sharon and she heads to the bathroom. (He waits in the hall. Don’t make it weird.)
30 – Sin, disguised as a nurse, tells Sharon that Doctor Faustus wants her to remember.
31 – Sharon remembers that she’s the one who shot Steve at point blank range.
32 – Sharon sits on the floor crying, asking herself repeatedly what she did.
Director’s Cut 38 – Ed Brubaker introduces Sharon, Agent 13 and Cap’s longtime on and off-again girlfriend.
Director’s Cut 39 – In this retcon, where Sharon is 7, Brubaker describes Peggy as “about 50.” He also says that Peggy is Sharon’s aunt, probably a great-aunt at that. He wanted to keep Peggy as part of the history, so he made a slight retcon to change Peggy from being Sharon’s sister to aunt. He also says that when Steve fought Batroc (supposedly in the first issues – he even makes a note that when Sharon first saw Cap, he was fighting Batroc) she was 22 at the time. He theorizes that Sharon in Cap 156 is the sexiest we’ve ever seen to date.

Cover – Faustus, Zola, and Red Skull tower in the background over Bucky, Sam, and… front and center, Sharon.
1 – Sharon and Valentina head to Steve’s wake. Val tells her that even though they haven’t been close in a long time, they’re friends, and Sharon can talk to her. Sharon says she just doesn’t know what to say, that’s all. Val asks about Sharon’s meeting with the new director, and Sharon says that, like everything else, it didn’t go well.
2 – Five days before, she and Tony argued, and she threatens to put him down despite how he outranks her. He tells her that something’s happened, and he doesn’t want her to be shocked. They argue some more (Tony body-napped Steve, apparently), with Sharon getting upset that Tony is calling Steve a specimen, and she finally asks what’s happened to him.
3 – The effects of the serum have reversed; Tony assures her that they’re running comprehensive tests. Sharon asks herself, again, what she did, and then freezes as Tony asks what she said.
4 – She turns it on him, accusing him of doing this, and they argue again. It culminates with Tony saying that this is killing him, and she slaps him and says that he doesn’t get to say that.
5 – Sharon tells Val that, after that, she resigned. Val asks what Sharon will do without SHIELD. Sharon doesn’t know, but she doesn’t know what the point of anything is without Steve.
6 – She approaches Sam at the wake, and she compliments his speech.
7 – Sam’s already heard that she’s resigned from SHIELD (Dugan has a big mouth for a spy; the mustaches is big so it can try to catch his secrets. Clearly he needs a bigger mustache). Sharon and Sam argue about her quitting SHIELD, and she tries to tell him that there’s something she needs to tell him, but she can’t get the words out.
8 – They’re interrupted by Rick Jones, though Sam says he isn’t interrupting and says he’ll call Sharon tomorrow. Rick tells her that Steve really loved her.
9 – Sharon excuses herself and greets Carol and Simon in passing on her way to the bathroom. She looks into the mirror and remembers again.

8 – Sounds like Bucky’s after Steve’s shield and planning on killing Tony Stark. Sharon calls Bucky an idiot. She emerges from behind a screen in her new outfit – the debut of her classic white catsuit!
18 – Sharon and Sam watch the aftermath of Bucky stealing the shield from a rooftop and talk about their next move.

3 – Faustus congratulates Sharon on appearing so frightened, and when she asks about Bucky, Faustus talks about having to break hostile patients over and over again. They have to be willing to die for you, kill for you – as she well knows. She follows him, but she watches where they take Bucky, and the voice in her head tells her to stop thinking.
4 – Natasha, Sam, and Redwing are on Sharon’s trail. Redwing “tells” them she went into the sewers and then opts not to follow for some reason.
5 – Natasha asks if Sam’s all right, and he says, “I just found out that my good friend killed my best friend, and that she’s out of her mind.” When they find a secret entrance, Natasha declines a SHIELD assault unit – they want to get Agent 13 out alive, after all.
6 – Tony confirms Sharon’s pregnancy and orders all records of it deleted.
7 – Sharon listens in on a conversation between Faustus and the Skull where they talk about killing Bucky if he can’t be broken. Sharon’s still arguing with her inner voice.
8 – Natasha and Sam no longer have stealth on their side and go with a full front assault strategy. Sam says, “Let’s go find our girl.”
9 – Bucky wonders how he’s going to get himself and Steve’s lady friend out with him, because he’s sure as hell not leaving without her.
10 – Faustus orders everyone to evacuate and destroy all hard drives (probably not in that order. With Sharon following him, he orders his “damned prisoner” be brought to him.
12 – Bucky follows the Raid soldiers, guessing that wherever they’re going, it’s a safe bet that’s where Steve’s girl is.
13 – Faustus orders Sharon to take down Bucky.
14 – Sharon’s verbally arguing with the voice in her head, eventually falling to her knees and begging it to stop. A voice behind her tells her that it’s okay.
15 – Bucky tells her they’re both getting out of there, assuming she’s herself now. She… is not. The voice praises her as she tells the men with her to take Bucky to the evac-ship.
16 – Sharon and an unconscious Bucky are on the escape jet; Sam is in pursuit.
18 – Faustus wants Falcon off their tail. Sharon tells the voice in her head to shut up. Faustus asks what she said, and she answers, “That I know how to get rid of the Falcon.” He yells, “NO!” but it’s too late! She’s pulled the lever!
19 – Bucky, as is his wont, falls from the plane. Sharon looks on. Sam diverts to catch Bucky.
21 - Faustus asks what’s going on inside Sharon’s head – why would she release their prisoner? She answers that she did it because it worked, and they were just going to kill him anyway. He considers her before telling her she might have just gotten both of them killed. He doesn’t like that.

Cover – Sharon and Sam share a cover.
1 – Sharon has a nightmare where she kills Steve, something she thinks about ever day and often dreams about, though not every night anymore.
2 – The nightmare continues.
3 – In the nightmare, Steve asks why he did this to her, and the Red Skull bites her hand. She wakes and reflects that the mornings after the nightmares are the worst.
4 – It’s been a year since Steve died, six months since she’s been free of Faustus and the Red Skull. There’s no SHIELD anymore, not after the Skrull invasion, and Bucky’s an Avenger.
5 – She’s staying at the Carter family home in Virginia, where Sam sometimes stays. She thinks he’s one of the only friends she’s got left. She looks in the mirror and feels like there are pieces of her memory just out of reach.
6 – She visits Peggy and hopes Peggy’s not divulging classified intel to the civilians. Peggy asks who Sharon is, if she works with Nick Fury.
7 – Sharon notes that Peggy was a bigger influence on Sharon than her own parents, and her father never forgave that. Sharon was a late surprise, and never close with her parents. They died believing she’d been killed in action.
8 – She says good-bye to Peggy, who says that Steve’s going to visit again soon. Sharon mumbles that she’s sure he will, and Peggy talks about Roosevelt giving him time off. Sharon leaves.
9 – Sam checks in with Sharon.
10 – Sam brainstorms new names for Fifties Cap and says Sharon’s way too nice – and Fifties Cap didn’t save her, he just didn’t kill her. They settle on calling him “Bad Cap.”
11 – Sharon wishes Sam a safe flight and avoids napping by taking a walk. She can feel the memories trying to come back.
12 – She runs into Dave Cox, whom she hasn’t seen in ten years at least. He invites her to dinner.

14 – He confesses that he’s been walking in the woods almost every day, hoping to run into her. She asks why he couldn’t just come over and ring the bell, and he says that Sharon Carter is kind of a big deal, or at least it always has been to him. They kiss (there’s been some drinking), and then they both say it would be a bad idea (not too much drinking, then).
15 – They agree to blame the wine, and he goes to get her a blanket. She falls asleep on the couch, only to be found by his son the next day.
16 – She volunteers to make breakfast while Dave explains that Sharon’s an old friend. She doesn’t finish breakfast because she notices a scar on her belly that she’s never seen before.

18 – Sam tells her everything, and her memories start to come back. By the time he’s done, she remembers everything and cries in Sam’s arms. Like Peggy...

21 – She sees something in the lighted table portal again again.
22 – She thinks it might have been Steve.

10 – They lure him into a trap with Victoria in a chair. Sharon holds her gun on Creel and warns him not to mess with this one and walk away. He does not.

It’s there that they find Spider-Man, who asks if one of them can get him a snack. Sharon says she’s going to shoot him, and both Maria and Victoria say they won’t stop her.

She's also there when Moon Knight calls in to say the Secret Avengers were too late.
Onslaught Unleashed #3 - 2011, April 13 [ 9 10 11 ]
Sharon comes to, and Onslaught orders Ant-man to finish her off. Eric fights it, though, and Onslaught pushes harder, ordering him to grow larger while in Sharon's head. Eric admits he may be easy, but he won't let Onslaught- he repeats it another time as he fights for control, only to get washed away as Sharon washes her ear out under a tap. Once she's sure Eric isn't in her head anymore, she runs out of the Quinjet and tries to raise Steve on the comms to warn him that Eric's been taken over. But Eric grows to giant size and grabs her.
Sharon - and this is one more thing I love about her - says, "Whoever's in there in Ant-Man's head" (NOT BLAMING ERIC RIGHT) "here's your problem. You may be able to control minds, but unless either you or your subject's a trained fighter, all mine." And throughout all that, she's hitting Eric's pressure points to beat him down. It's gorgeous.
Fear Itself #1 - 2011, April 6 [ 3/4 5 6 7 8 15/16 19/20 32/33 35/36 37/38 ]
People are protesting at Ground Zero in Lower Manhattan, and Steve and Sharon are there to keep an eye on things. As the situation escalates into a full-blown riot, the two are caught in the middle, and Sharon asks Steve how they can stop it. The Avengers and New Avengers team up nearby to see if they can figure out if a villain is behind it, only to rule out every option but humans being humans. Steve is disappointed in humanity. To top things off, Sharon and the other Avengers are at a party in Asgard when Odin decides the Asgardians have had too much home and drags them home.
Captain America #618 - 2011, May 25 [ 3 4 5 6 7 8 26 ]
Sharon and Natasha are trapped by the guards, and Sharon knows before she even has to look at Natasha that Natasha's going to make the situation even worse. But Natasha's speed still surprises her. Once Natasha starts fighting, though, Sharon knows there's no going back and pitches in. They leave one of the guards able to speak, and Natasha asks how he knew they were there when the two didn't trip any alartms. The guard says he and the others hadn't come for them - they'd come to destroy the records.
As they drive away, Sharon asks how long they have. Natasha says they're minutes from the safe house, but Sharon says she wants to know how long they have until the guards tip off the Russians that the Black Widow is back in Russia on a covert op. Natasha isn't concerned about that, though. She wants to know why the Russians are just now covering their tracks, as opposed to before Bucky was taken into custody. Sharon asks her what she's thinking, and Natasha says Rostov is the key. She bypasses the stairs to the safehouse by using the rail to leap up, and Sharon goes up the stairs at a more sedate pace, wondering if Natasha thinks Rostov was manipulating his own government and that the Russians are just then starting to realize it. Sharon tries to come up with ways to get more information on what Rostov's up to, but Natasha wants to go straight to saving Bucky.
Sharon points out that they've already overstepped their orders, but Natasha doesn't care about that, either. Sharon tells her that it isn't them on the line - Steve could lose his job. They need to go through the proper channels. Natasha asks about plausible deniability.
Later, Sharon calls Steve to tell them they have a problem. After what they found out, Natasha has disappeared. Sharon turned her back for a minute, and Natasha was gone. She thinks Natasha has gone rogue, and argues that since this is Natasha's city, Sharon's at a disadvantage in finding her. After the call is over, she goes outside in the rain, telling Natasha - who isn't there - to do what she has to do.
It turns out that Sharon has called over the official line, which means she knows the conversation is being recorded and tells Steve, without it being said, that she and Natasha have realized that Bucky is living on borrowed time.
Sharon and Natasha debate their course of action, with both of them agreeing that they can do more if they go rogue. Sharon knows that if they do that, though, it will hurt Steve and call his leadership into question. So Natasha goes rogue, and Sharon calls it in on the line she knows is tapped to let Steve know before telling Natasha to go help Bucky.
Avengers Vol 4 #13 - 2011, May 18 [ 22/23 ]
Sharon attends the press conference wherein Tony announces that he and the Avengers will be helping rebuild Asgard.
Secret Avengers #13 - 2011, May 25 [ Cover 20 ]
Washington, DC is under attack, and one Congressman, a friend of Hank McCoy's, has stayed behind despite the threat of the building collapsing. Eight years ago, he'd sworn to see through a bill that would earmark some money for a free health clinic so the miners could get regular breath tests. Half the people who came to him about the bill eight years before are dead now, but despite the threat, he's going to see this bill through. Congress fled so fast that they're technically still in session, and he wants Hank's help to get word out on television for as long as he has the floor, a chance he doesn't get often. He also wants to show people that business goes on. Maybe if he can show them that, they'll believe it for themselves. He wants the cameras on him, and Hank gets Sharon to help. She uses a tablet to turn all the footage back to the Representative Leonard Gary so he can help inspire people.
[ Note: Might want to read this one with tissues. ]
Onslaught Unleashed #4 - 2011, May 25 [ Cover 3 9 10 12 16 17 20 24 ]
Sharon's getting ready to go for back-up, with Eric arguing that they don't have time. She asks how she can trust anything he has to say, even if he is tied up, and Eric tells her that Onslaught isn't in his head anymore, which means Onslaught doesn't need Eric anymore. He's about to tell her what that means (I'm guessing nothing good) when Hank McCoy comes back on the radio, asking if Sharon can read him. She asks if he can read her, and Hank briefs the two of them on a plan.
Eric goes back to help distract Onslaught while Sharon flies the Quinjet right at him. Onslaught demands to know what "Agent Carter" expected to accomplish. Did she really think her psi-defense training can stop him from getting the truth? What is she hiding in her mind? Something about Henry McCoy... She yells that she can't keep him out, and that it's gotta be now, Beast! She hits Onslaught with a focused EMP blast to temporarily disrupt Onslaught's energy without compromising the facility's power. However, she crashes the Quinjet in the process.
Once it appears they've won the battle, Steve announces that he's going after Sharon. He shoots the Quinjet door to get it open to find Sharon unconscious on the floor. He helps her up as she comes to, and she asks if Henry's plan worked. He doesn't know. Before they can talk more, though, Onslaught reappears (well, Rikki beat him by committing suicide) and blasts the facility. By the time they get to the facility, Rikki is already dead. This, by the way, is the closest Sharon ever gets to meeting her cousin (Rikki is Peggy and Bucky's daughter in another universe).
On the way home, Eric is apologizing to Sharon for what he did, arguing that he couldn't help himself - which was the worst feeling, but he's sincerely sorry. She tells him that now he knows how it feels when a woman is taken advantage of and that he can go sit down now. Once he's gone, she asks Natasha, her co-pilot, if that was too harsh, but Natasha says that just because Eric's trying to atone for his past, that doesn't mean he can escape it.
Later, Steve is woken from his dream by Onslaught's voice. It's just a dream, of course, and he leaves Sharon sleeping in their bed as he goes to watch the sunrise with a coffee.
